Why can't I send mail through the GetSite/Netdor mail server?

Good question, complex answer! Once upon a time we allowed all of our hosting customers to send mail through the GetSite/Netdor SMTP server. However to allow users not authenticating thorough our system we employed open relay. While this feature was good and useful for our hosting customers, it was great for spammers who rely on open relay to bounce their messages to targeted mail servers. We would invest a good deal of time combating spam but it became an ongoing battle. However we persevered to keep and police the open relay and minimize the spam problem.

Recently an organization, Spam Cop http://spamcop.org/ determined that it would "Protect Your Internet" by actively looking for open relay mail servers. When located, Spam Cop would place the server on a "black list" of "bad" mail servers and distribute it to subscribing ISP's who then would block ALL mail from a "black listed" mail server. Needless to say, the GetSite/Netdor mail server ended up on the Spam Cop "black list".

Being placed on the Spam Cop "black list" our hosting and dialup customers would call and ask why their e-mail was being kicked back by the receiving mail server. We made the decision that we would best serve our customers by closing mail relay thus removing the GetSite/Netdor mail server from the Spam Cop "black list".

We offer limited ability to send and receive mail through a utility published at: http://communityusa.com/mail customers who want the flexibility of sending mail via the GetSite/Netdor mail server must obtain a GetSite/Netdor dialup access account currently priced at $12.95/mo. Contact support@getsite.net for account activation.

Your GetSite/Netdor POP3 account (the ability to receive e-mail) is not affected and remains unchanged.

How does the e-mail forwarding work?

Everyone gets free e-mail forwarding. Any mail that is sent to (person)@(Yourdomain.com) will be forwarded to any existing e-mail address.

I set up my e-mail forwarding but my e-mail is bouncing back to me.

What this means most likely is that you didn't set the forwarding correctly. You have to go the the members page and click on the link for changing e-mail aliases, you have to enter an existing e-mail address or e-mail will continue to bounce back.

How do I change the e-mail address that my e-mail is forwarded to?

This is very simple, just go to the Members Page and use the appropriate change e-mail alias tool.

How can I change my e-mail password?

Go to the members page Members Page for information on how to change the password

My Forwarding address is correct, but I get an error from e-mail when I send myself a message to myself.

How do I check my e-mail on my web site?

There are several ways to do this.

  1. We have a mail program that was designed for our clients to via the Internet that has proven to be very useful. At this time it is basic utility but we are in the process of upgrading it's features.
  2. Unfortunately there are too many e-mail programs out there to be able to tell you how to set up each one. So I have used Microsoft Outlook Express for this example.

Please follow this procedure
First you must open Microsoft Outlook Express and click on the Tools option from the menu bar. Now click on the Accounts option within the Tools menu, and select Add, from here you will be asked details about yourself and your company etc.

Once you have entered your Full Name and E-mail address, you will be presented with a screen for setting up outlook with your e-mail server.

Make sure your incoming e-mail server is a POP3 server

Next it will ask for the e-mail server information, this has to be correct for you to be able to send and receive emails.
Incoming  and Outgoing e-mail server is the same, type this in those fields:
incoming e-mail: ns.netdor.com
outgoing e-mail: mail.youraccessprovider.com

Now click on Next to take you to the Mail Logon Screen type in your username and password in  lower case.

Now you need to configure Outlook Express to the correct type of connection that you are currently using on your computer. The options available are

Connect Using a Phoneline
Connect using a LAN
I will establish a Connection Manually

Once you have finished this portion you are ready to join the frenzy of e-mailingHave FUN!

You can have a single account for Jane which accepts mail addressed to
jane.doe@yourdomain.com
and also jane wants to get all the e-mails for SALES@YOUDOMAIN.COM and for
INFO@YOUDOMAIN.COM.
when Jane gets her mail for her main account jane.doe@yourdomain.com , she
gets the mail for all the desired addressees (jane.doe, sales, and info)

jane.doe@yourdomain.com  is called the main mailbox account or the pop3
account
SALES@YOUDOMAIN.COM is called an alias to jane.doe.
INFO@YOUDOMAIN.COM is called an alias to jane.doe.

Can I move my e-mail to the new Web Messaging Client?

Yes! On July 7, 2001 we implemented a new Web Messaging Client for our hosting customers. Managed by our eCommerce partner, the ShoppingTechnology(TM) Web Messaging Client will allow you to send and receive messages, manage contacts and organize a personal calendar.

While the new Web Messaging Client is much more flexible than our existing mail server, there is a short term downside when transitioning . Our new Web Messaging Client works as a virtual mail server for each domain served. For the Web Messaging Client it to work we must add a new record to the DNS for your domain: mail.your_domain.com. After we add this record it must undergo the process of propagation, a process that can take between 3 to 4 days. Thus you will be without e-mail for a few days. If you want to transition to the new Web Messaging Client please contact customer support.
