This documentation is relevant to hosting customers who established service on or after July 7, 2001.

General Information

Included in your Hosting Package is the ShoppingTechnology(TM) Web Messing Client. From your Web Messaging Client Administration utility, you will be able to add, delete and modify e-mail accounts and aliases, send and receive messages, manage contacts and organize a calendar for your domain.

Your Web Messaging Client is accessed and managed from your personal computer using a web browser (Microsoft(R) IE Explorer or Netscape(R) Navigator). The address for your Web Messaging Client is: http://mail.your_domain.com:8383 Additionally, we setup a default e-mail account for you and the address is: your_domain@your_domain.com (if your domain name was getsite.com your default e-mail address would be getsite@getsite.com).

To login to your Web Messaging Client enter your userid (the part of your e-mail address, before the @) into the field provided (the default is your_domain). Next enter the password in the field provided. For simplicity, we set up all password protected services with the password you specified to us during the order process. You can change your e-mail password at any time PLEASE NOTE: Due to DNS issues and propagation, you will not be able to access your mail server URL until approximately 3 to 4 days after receiving your IP address.

The POP3 and SMTP server address are mail.your_domain.com.

My e-mail isn't working yet

There are two issues that can delay your ability to send and recede e-mail, DNS transfer and propagation.

Before you can login to your Web Messaging Client, your domain name must have been transferred to our DNS (Domain Name Service). This is critically important as your Web Messaging Client works as a virtual mail server handling messages and tasks exclusively for your domain. The DNS is the service that allows your website and Web Messaging Client to be located on the Internet by other computers. Propagation is the process where updates to the DNS are broadcast to specialized computers called routers. Routers store DNS information and direct traffic from point to point including your website and Web Messaging Client. Propagation can take between 3 to 4 days.

Questions about Domain Name transfers should be directed to support@getsite.net

Do you offer additional e-mail accounts?

Yes, we do offer additional e-mail accounts on monthly, quarterly and annual terms. The prices are:
Monthly $5.00 per month
Quarterly $12.00 per quarter
Annually (best value) $24.00 per year

Can I send and receive e-mail ?

YES! Your ShoppingTechnology(TM) Web Messaging Client will allow you to send and receive messages, manage contacts and organize a personal calendar.

How do I check e-mail?

There are two principal methods to check e-mail and send messages.

  1. Using a browser (Microsort(R) Internet Explorer or Netscape(R) Navigator enter your Web Messaging Client to address: http://mail.your_domain.com:8383 . A login page will be displayed requesting your userid and password. Enter the userid in the field provided. The userid is the part of your e-mail address before the @ symbol. By default, we setup an e-mail account for your domain: your_domain@your_domain.com. For example, if your domain name was getsite.com your default e-mail address would be getsite@getsite.com thus, your userid would be getsite.
  2. If however, you will be checking e-mail via a mail reader such as Microsoft Outlook Express your account name is your entire e-mail address such as the default e-mail address: your_email@your_domain.com.

Setting up Outlook Express on your personal computer.

From your browser select mail / read mail or open Outlook Express from your desktop icon.

From the tool bar select tools then select accounts. Next, select the mail tab then click on the Add button to the right and select Mail. A Wizard Dialog will open requesting the following information.

  • Your Name: (Type in the name you would like to appear in the from field of the outgoing message) then Click Next
  • Internet E-mail Address: Enter your e-mail address and Click Next
  • E-mail Server and Account Names: Your Incoming mail server is a POP3

    Incoming POP3 Server name: mail.your_domain.com

    Outgoing SMTP Server name: mail.your_domain.com

User Names and Passwords are case Sensitive!

POP3 account name:your_e-mail@your_domain.com (the default e-mail address is your_domain@your_domain.com)

If you want Outlook Express to remember you password enter it in the field provided and Click Next

Click on Finish

After completing the above instructions, you must modify the "My server requires authentication" setting. From the tool bar, select Tools and click on Accounts. The Internet Accounts dialog box will open please select the "Mail" tab and highlight the e-mail account you created and click on the properties button. When the Account dialog box opens, select the "Servers" tab. Read down the dialog to the "Outgoing Mail Server" property and click on the check box to the left of " My server requires authentication". You do not need to modify the "Advanced" settings. Click "OK" and "Close".

You should now be able to send and receive e-mail using Outlook Express.

Configuring Netscape Messenger or Communicator

Netscape Communicator v.4.x

This section describes how to configure Netscape Communicator to access your POP e-mail box.

1.. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
2.. Open the Mail & Newsgroups section and click Mail Servers.
a.. Your outgoing Mail Server Name is: "mail.yourdomain.com".
For example: mail.getsite.net
b.. Click Add to add a new POP Server

3.. Configure Pop Server
a.. Server Name: "mail.yourdomain.com"
b.. Server Type: select POP3 Server.
c.. User Name: popID%yourdomain.com. For example, if your popID was "Fred" and your domain getsite.net, then Fred%getsite.net ( Please note that % acts as the @ symbol)

4.. Click Identity in left column.
a.. Your Name: your name
b.. E-mail Address: the e-mail address for the POP mailbox
c.. Reply-to Address: your e-mail address

All other settings are optional. Choosing Messenger Mailbox from the Communicator menu will open the part of Netscape that allows you to read and send mail.

Unfortunately, Netscape Messenger does not natively support retrieval of multiple e-mail accounts for POP3 mail servers. To retrieve mail from multiple accounts, you will need to setup additional user profiles using the User Profile Manager supplied with Netscape. See your Netscape documentation for more information.

Outgoing Mail (SMTP)
There are two ways you can configure outgoing mail: 1) via the local ISP through whom you connect to the Internet; or 2) via your hosted mail server.

Complete the following fields under Outgoing Mail Server.
a. Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - The mail server through which e-mail will be sent. You may use your ISP's outgoing mail server or your hosted mail server: mail.yourdomain.com
b.. Outgoing Mail Server User Name - for your hosted mail server type your popLogin. (I.E., popLogin%mail.yourdomain.com)
c.. Click OK to close the Preferences window.

How can I send mail and how do I logon to an SMTP server?

Most mail clients support SMTP authentication. For example, in Outlook Express if you click on Tools, then Accounts the Internet Accounts dialog window will open. Select the Mail tab on the dialog and select your email account and then click on the properties button to the right. A dialog window for you e-mail account will open. Click on the Servers tab and place a "check mark" in the box to the left of "My Server Requires Authentication"

Your POP3 (incoming e-mail) and SMTP (outgoing e-mail) user names (Login ID) and passwords should be the same for both services.

If you us a mail program other than Outlook or Outlook express please consult the programs Help file for instruction on how to configure "SMTP Server to login"

Can I Forward my mail?

You can have Web Messaging automatically forward your mail to another mail account.

To activate this feature select Change Mail Forwarding Information from the drop down box. Enter the e-mail address where you want your e-mail forwarded to in the text box provided and press the Save button. Only when an e-mail address is present in the text box mail will be forwarded to that e-mail address (In other words, as long as this box is empty, mail is not forwarded.)

Note: You can forward your mail to more than one e-mail addresses by entering multiple addresses separated by commas.

To keep a copy and forward a copy, precede the forwarding address by a dot and a comma, for example, you'd enter .,forward_email@forward_domain.com to forward mail and keep a copy in your mailbox.

I set up my e-mail forwarding but my e-mail is bouncing back to me.

What this means most likely is that you didn't set the forwarding correctly. Please visit your Web Messaging Client Administration utility and check the forwarding address.. The forwarding e-mail address must be a valid existing e-mail address or e-mail will continue to bounce back.

How can I change my e-mail password?

Go to your mail server (http://mail.your_domain.com:8383) and select Change Password under the Personal Account Options from the drop down menu.

Adding or Editing an Automatic Response

Adding an Automatic Response

Use this page to set up an automatic response so that each time you receive mail, a prepared message is sent back to the sender. This feature is activated when you enter text in the Message box. (In other words, if the Message box is empty, no automatic response is sent.)

  1. Enter Main as the mailbox if you want all incoming mail to receive the automatic response. (If you want the automated response to be activated only for a particular mailbox, select the mailbox name.)
  2. If, in addition to sending an automatic response, you want to forward incoming messages to another user ID, enter a mail address. For example, you can forward messages to your assistant, or to another mailbox besides Main (by entering the forwarding address as your User ID-othermailbox).
  3. In the Message box, enter the subject and message to be returned to all senders who send mail to this sub-area. The first line of the body of the message is used as the subject line for the automatic response. It must be less than 80 characters. The rest of the message will be sent as the body of the automatic response. It must be less than 1024 characters.
  4. Click the Save button.

Note: To prevent automatic responses to bulk mailers, an automatic response is not sent if the original message contains the Precedence: bulk header. To prevent automatic responses to list server mailing lists, automatic responses are not sent if the original message contains imailsrv in the mail address.

Editing an Automatic Response

To edit an existing automatic response, select the mailbox (usually Main), make any necessary changes, and click the Update button.
